Magnus Speaks
In front of a dark blue curtain stands the man who has brought about a major change in the ULW world. Sure, it was from luck that Sheryl Grey contacted his client, just looking for some roster space to fill up. But he took this luck and made it into something. His client is now about to compete for the Revolution League title. The man standing there is Arthur Magnus. Magnus is wearing a charcoal suit, red tie, and leaning forward on his ever present cane. Since he walks so well, people have always wondered why he uses the cane. It’s probably one of those questions that may not be answered.
When Magnus spoke, it was a stylized dark voice that could not be ignored. Although his sunglasses covered his eyes, the rest of his facial expressions tell everything about what he is saying. He is serious, animated, and intelligent.
“Good evening one and all. I am here this evening to address the slanderous statements made by one Aurora Rose. I do not know if these comments were made to dull the opinions of the masses, if they were meant to scare my client, or were just said out of pure desperation from the rhetoric that Miss Rose wants everyone to believe. She may even believe in these words herself. The former is what I am most serious about.
“Jon Rich is not a sexist. Yes, at one time, he may have been. Yes, Aurora, he saw women as conquests, but no longer. You accused him of saying that you were only a woman. I happen to know that he did not accuse you of being ‘only’ anything. Do not ever again put words into my client’s mouth.
“Aurora, I will be frank with you. You are not in any position to tell Jon what will or will not happen. Jon will win the League title this week. This is absolutely certain. Aurora, you are skilled in the ring. But your problem is that you have your fallback position that the world is against you because you are a woman. You came into a man’s world, and you are surprised that others see you as inferior. You tell me this, what have you done to change their minds besides complain that they are against you? This sport has been a man’s sport since its inception. True, there have been women’s divisions that are very successful. ULW and ULW:R are not one of them.
“Am I saying that you don’t belong here, in this world of men? Certainly not! Without women who would stand up and make it their world, this greatest nations in the world would not be there where they are today. Do you think there would have ever been a Queen of England if she had not stood up, with her armies, and took it? Absolutely not! Do you think that women in the US would have had Suffrage had it not been for the women who would stand up and take it? No. How did they win it? They took what they wanted and became that by fighting for it and not using it as an excuse for their failures.”
Arthur took his glasses off and now looked into the camera. From his eyes, you could tell that he believed in everything he was saying. It’s no wonder that Jon could follow him so completely. When he spoke, only a fool would not listen to him.
“To be even more honest, I am surprised that Robin Brooks has not thrown it all out and beat the ever loving mess out of you. Robin is a woman in this sport of men and has done very well for herself. All of this whining and complaining you do degrade her and all of her accomplishments. Look at her, she worked hard and got to where she is. She did not do it by complaining about her sex and any of her shortcomings. Anyone who has really been in this sport and studied it, know that those shortcomings can be made into your best assets. Let’s not mince words here; Robin Brooks is a ULW staple. Even though she was lead by Hurse and his continuous mind games, we all know she will bounce back. She will not do it by pining over a broken heart or complaining that she is a woman. Sure, the pain will happen and will take time to deal with. That is certain. When she does get over it,. She will be a force to recon with. You like sayings, Aurora? How about ‘Hell hath no fury as a woman scorned?’ Jon will not face that fury because you have not been scored by anyone other than yourself.
“Aurora, you can make a shallow guarantee that Jon will bleed. In a match of this type in the Revolution Underground, it goes without saying. How about making a guarantee that matters? How about a guarantee that Jon Rich will leave as the first Revolution League Champion? You can bet your money on that. And until you can get over yourself and become a real powerful female figure that will fight and take what she wants, you will always be scraping the bottom of the barrel.”
Arthur puts his glasses back on and walks away.
